Vincent Perez (“The Crow: City of Angels”) and Linus Roache (“Priest”) have been cast to topline the HBO Pictures docudrama “Shot Through the Heart,” which starts production later this month in Sarajevo and Budapest for a 1998 premiere on the Time Warner pay cabler.

The fact-based drama tells the story of best friends in Sarajevo whose relationship is ravaged by the civil war, particularly when one is assigned to kill a sniper who he learns is his pal.

“This dramatic story of friendship and war is made ever more powerful by the fact that it is true and that we are filming much of it in the actual locations where the events took place,” said John Matoian, prexy for HBO Pictures and HBO NYC Prods.

David Attwood directs from a script by Guy Hibbert. Francine LeFrak is executive producer, Su Armstrong the producer.

The pic is a co-production of Alliance Communications, Company Pictures and Transatlantic Media Associates in association with the BBC and LeFrak Prods. Michael Halpern is the HBO VP in charge of supervising “Shot Through the Heart.”
