Peacocks backs Albert

NEW YORK — NBC Sports said Thursday it will stand by announcer Marv Albert, declining to suspend him from calling this weekend’s NBA playoff games.

Albert, indicted by a Washington, D.C., grand jury Monday on charges of forcible sodomy and assault against an unidentified woman, has strongly denied the charges.

“Prior to these charges being made public Tuesday, Marv at no time was ever afforded any opportunity to discuss the facts with police or prosecuting attorneys,” but must soon defend himself in a court, NBC said in a statement. “Given these facts, Marv will broadcast the NBA playoffs on NBC continuing this Saturday in Miami.”
