Continuing the retail branding boom coursing through TV, Nickelodeon is jumping into the fray in time for Christmas with the opening of three Nickelodeon stores in Minneapolis (Tuesday), on Long Island, N.Y. (Wednesday) and outside Chicago in Schaumburg, Ill. (Dec. 8).
Launched by Viacom Retail Group in collaboration with the kiddie cabler, the stores will carry more than 2,000 branded products, including such popular Nickelodeon toys as Gak, Floam, Smud and Zzand. The stores will feature tilted walls, purple ceilings, “slimed” cabinets and bright colors all around. Emporiums also will serve as a “creative laboratory” for Nickelodeon consumer product testing, gauging kid response before going national.
“We’ve developed the stores with a single goal in mind: to create an official Nickelodeon headquarters that serves as the only place kids can get the complete Nickelodeon experience,” VRG prexy Tom Haas said.
