HONG KONG — MGM Gold, the 24-hour movie network, has announced several deals at the Cable and Satellite Broadcasting Assn. of Asia conference.
President and general manager Steve Smith said the channel had granted Taiwan’s Eastern Broadcasting Co. the exclusive right to distribute the channel and sell advertising on its behalf in the country. Eastern is the largest cable operator in Taiwan, which Smith called “our most important market.”
He also announced that the channel had added 90 new titles to its library with the acquisition of programming rights from film licensers Canal Plus Image and ERA.
The channel also recently signed a three-year deal with the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival to sponsor the award for best short film. The nominees and winner of the award will be showcased on the channel.
“(Next year) will no doubt be challenging, but we’re confident that we’ll meet it with continued success and growth,” Smith said.
MGM Gold is a joint venture between MGM and Encore Media Group.
