Fox Broadcasting Co. and Aaron Spelling today are expected to unveil two new characters for their Monday night soap “Melrose Place.”
Sources say the new roles will be played by Jamie Luner, who most recently played Peyton Richards on Spelling’s now-canceled WB netlet soap “Savannah,” and Linden Ashby of the daytime soap “Loving” and the features “Wyatt Earp” and “Eight Seconds.”
Luner and Ashby will play a divorced couple who wreak havoc on the show’s current cast of characters. The additions come shortly after Courtney Thorne-Smith left the show and joined the cast of “Ally McBeal,” the David Kelley drama that will follow “Melrose Place” (Daily Variety, June 6) on Monday nights this fall.
Meanwhile, Paramount and CBS are making some minor casting changes to their new sitcom “George & Leo,” which stars Bob Newhart and Judd Hirsch. Sources say the actor who plays Newhart’s son on the show, Patrick Breen, will be replaced. The fate of the actress who plays Hirsch’s daughter, Bess Meyer, will depend on her chemistry with Breen’s replacement.
