KABC-TV is looking to lay down roots in Glendale.
The ABC O&O, now located in Hollywood, expects to break ground on a TV station by spring 1999, with a targeted move-in date of fall in the year 2000.
The new station will be located near the intersection of the Ventura and Interstate-5 freeways in south Glendale’s sprawling Grand Central Business Centre complex, which was purchased by ABC’s parent company, the Walt Disney Co., earlier this year. Walt Disney Imagineering and other Disney divisions take up about 60% of office space in the 96-acre lot.
KABC officials say the station has outgrown its current home on Prospect Avenue in the Los Feliz area, which also houses news and entertainment production facilities for ABC.
KABC-TV’s planned move will not affect KABC-AM and its sister radio station, KLOS-FM, now located on South La Cienega Boulevard.
