Hungary’s Shopping TV adds Poland

BUDAPEST — Hungary-based Shopping TV will soon become Europe’s first pan-continental telemarketing network.

On Sept. 1, Shopping TV, owned by the London-based World Shopping Network (WSN) and operated in conjunction with L.A.-based Happening Prods., will expand its services into Poland after having launched a teleshopping station in Hungary six months ago.

According to Happening Prods. co-president Patrick Jucaud, Shopping TV will be transmitted in Poland over the PTK cable network, Poland’s largest cable distributor, and will reach 200,000 subscribers at launch and as many as 600,000 PTK cable subscribers by the end of 1997.

Shopping TV will be beamed into Poland via the AMOS satellite, the same bird that has transmitted the network to cable in Hungary since its launch here March 15. (Shopping TV Hungary is expected to reach as many as 100 cable systems and 1.5 million viewers across the country by the start of 1998.)
