HBO discovers ‘Fathers’

HBO, which in August premieres “Oz,” its first conventional drama series, has purchased an unspecified number of episodes of the historical drama “The Founding Fathers” from producers Oliver Stone and Dan Halsted through their Illusion Entertainment, according to sources.

Hank Steinberg is scripting the one-hour series that is said to capture the “passions, ambitions, achievements and flaws” of the men who forged America.

HBO declined to either confirm or deny the series deal on Monday, but the project was reportedly brought in to the Time Warner net by HBO Original Prods. prexy Chris Albrecht and Anne Thomopolous, VP of original programming for the West Coast.

Deal was brokered by Karl Austen at Armstrong Hirsch along with Endeavor and manager Gina Matthews.
