Granada taps Root to head int’l drama

LONDON — Granada Prods. has appointed Antony Root as the head of Granada Intl. Drama, a new division to develop and produce telepics and miniseries for the international market.

Granada Intl. Drama will work closely with the company’s recently launched American arm, Granada Entertainment USA, and with its international sales company, Brite.

Root, whose credits include Channel 4’s TV adaptation of Armistad Maupin’s “Tales of the City,” is moving over from his current post as Granada TV’s head of drama.

“The market for premium television films and miniseries is a global one, and I intend to position Granada as a leading supplier,” Root said.

Andrea Wonfor, joint managing director of Granada Prods., said, “International expansion is a crucial part of our future plans, and we have already identified a tremendous appetite for high-quality drama productions in previously unexplored markets. We intend to offer the same expertise to our international production business as we offer to the U.K., and Antony has exactly the right experience and creativity to make that happen.”
