Globes scooped!

Fox-owned KTTV Los Angeles wasted no time spreading the word that the network’s hit drama “The X-Files” had won Golden Globe awards for best drama, as well as best actor (David Duchovny) and actress (Gillian Anderson). In fact, KTTV beat KNBC to the punch, because the tape-delayed broadcast had not yet reached that award when KTTV aired its teaser for the 10 p.m. newscast.

KTTV wasn’t alone. Viewers waiting for “60 Minutes” learned from the KCBS news team who won the top film awards, including best picture (“Evita”), best actress in a musical (Madonna) and best actor in a drama (Geoffrey Rush).

While NBC execs were not thrilled about being preempted in Los Angeles, once the show is done in the East Coast, it’s fair game. However, in the past, the stations have had an unwritten agreement not to steal thunder from another station’s kudocast. KTTV execs could not be reached for comment.
