Germany’s Pro7 buys DreamWorks rights

BERLIN — Germany’s third-ranked commercial web Pro7 is reportedly buying rights to series, sitcoms, cartoons and nearly 90 pics produced by DreamWorks. According to newsmagazine Der Spiegel, Pro7 is spending more than $60 million (100 million marks) to acquire 60% of an output deal with DreamWorks held by the Munich-based Telepool film trading company.

The purchase, Der Spiegel asserts, is intended to dispel rumors that Pro7 relies on Bavarian media baron Leo Kirch, father of major Pro7 shareholder Thomas Kirch, for programming. Pro7, which claims to have the highest profit margin among German webs, will be listed on the stock market starting in July.
