AMSTERDAM — Top European TV indie Endemol Entertainment has acquired a 51% share of Cologne-based television production company Non Fiction.
Non Fiction specializes in the production of talkshows, documentaries and current affairs programs, all genres “in high demand in Germany,” an Endemol spokesman told Daily Variety.
Endemol has a Cologne-based subsidiary, also called Endemol Entertainment, and a 49% share of Munich-based light entertainment producer GAT. Some 27% of all Endemol’s TV revenues and 20% of its total revenues comes from its German interests, percentages Endemol has said it wants to increase in the future.
The spokesman said the Non Fiction purchase was another leg of the company’s plans to continue expansion into Germany, where there “are still a lot of opportunities.”
The move also makes more concrete Endemol’s plans to spread its client base wider. Currently its biggest customer is RTL, but Endemol has said it wants to produce in the future for all broadcasters. Non Fiction’s main customers are commercial broadcasters Sat 1 and Pro 7.
