TORONTO – Atlantis Communications Inc. has found a Canadian buyer for Gene Roddenberry’s “Battleground Earth,” a new TV series conceived by the late creator of “Star Trek.”
Baton Broadcasting Inc. stepped up to the plate with a pre-emptive bid to snare the series for its fall schedule. The Toronto-based broadcaster owns 24 television stations across Canada.
Atlantis, also based in Toronto, is co-producing with Tribune Entertainment Co., which already has sold the series in firstrun syndication in 80% of the U.S., including 27 of the top 30 markets, Atlantis said.
The production budget of each hourlong episode is expected to be on the order of $1.1 million. The series is about humans trying to overcome conquest by alien invaders.
Atlantis also produces “Traders,” “The Outer Limits,” “Flash Forward,” “The Adventures of Sinbad” and “PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal.”
