NEW ORLEANS — Disney/ABC Intl. TV has closed a $15 million output deal with Brazilian broadcaster SBT, a well-placed source said.
The deal covers three years of product, including the Disney Club (which SBT will strip) and 45 films, among them “Crimson Tide,” “The Rock” and “Evita,” to become available in 1998.
The deal is the latest indication of SBT’s increased willingness to spend big at markets. Brazil’s No. 2 broadcaster, trailing Globo by a huge ratings margin, has significantly upped its programming budget in the last three years.
SBT has also acquired another $5 million or so of U.S. product, including a major package of pics from Universal that features “Schindler’s List.”
