Discovery goes shopping

SYDNEY — The Discovery Channel ventured into the world of home shopping Thursday, when it sealed a pact with Sydney-based TVSN (TV Shopping Network) for the pan-Asian shopping net to produce the half-hour show “The Discovery Channel Store.”

The first show, skedded for early August, will feature products that tie in with Discovery’s Shark Week. A second show is planned for October around Discovery’s space programming. The pact provides for TVSN to be promoted on Discovery and vice-versa across Asia.

“The Discovery Channel Store” on TVSN will feature product, such as videos and CD-ROMs, based on Discovery’s programming, as well as goods from the Nature Co. chain of U.S. stores, which recently was acquired by Discovery.
