BERLIN — DF1, Germany’s first digital pay TV platform, will be marketed under the Premiere name, German daily Berliner Zeitung reported in its Thursday edition.
In June, the Munich-based Kirch Group and Bertelsmann unit CLT-Ufa agreed to take equal shares in pay TV web Premiere, which reaches 1.5 million German households. Kirch’s multichannel DF1 has signed up only 40,000 subscribers since its launch last summer. Rivals Kirch and CLT-Ufa have said they will cooperate in developing the market for digital television in Germany through Premiere, but the fate of DF1 has been uncertain.
The paper says the decision to add DF1 to a Premiere digital platform will be made public on Thursday. The Premiere shareholders are also expected to announce that CLT-Ufa will take a 50% stake in Kirch’s free-TV sports channel DSF.
