Joshua Brand, co-creator of “Northern Exposure” and “I’ll Fly Away,” has inked a development deal with Brillstein-Grey and is creating a one-hour drama for ABC that may star actress Dana Delany.

Sources say Delany, who starred in “China Beach,” is not yet formally attached to the project, but Brillstein-Grey is targeting her for the 1998 show. In addition to “China Beach,” Delany has starred in the features “Fly Away Home,” “Live Nude Girls” and “Tombstone,” among others.

Brand also wrote and produced for “St. Elsewhere,” and he created and executive produced the series “A Year in the Life” and “Going to Extremes,” among others.

Brand is repped by UTA’s Jay Sures and Peter Benedek and attorney Tom Hoberman. ICM reps Delany.

Separately, Viacom Prods. inked an exclusive overall deal Thursday with Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, two other “Northern Exposure” executive producers. That writing duo, who also executive produced the ABC series “Dangerous Minds” and developed the David E. Kelley pilot “The Pastor’s Wife,” will create TV series and telefilms for Viacom.

Frolov and Schneider began writing together on Fox’s “Alien Nation,” and they later wrote three made-fors based on the series.
