Council issues list of family-friendly shows

The Parents TV Council, a conservative media watchdog group, has released its list of the top 10 most and least family-friendly programs for the 1996-97 season.

Fox topped the list in terms of least family-friendly programming, while CBS had the most pro-family shows.

On the antifamily hit list were NBC’s “Men Behaving Badly” and “Friends,” CBS’ “Cybill,” ABC’s “Spin City,” “High Incident” and “Life’s Work” and Fox’s “Melrose Place,” “Beverly Hills 90210,” “Millennium” and “Married … With Children.”

On the pro-family list are CBS’ “Touched by an Angel,” “Promised Land,” “Early Edition,” “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” and “Cosby,” ABC’s “Home Improvement,” “Second Noah” and “Family Matters” and the WB’s “7th Heaven” and “The Parent ‘Hood.”

“It was much easier coming up with a list of least family-friendly programs,” said the group’s executive director in a statement. “The vast majority of the primetime schedule is not suitable for family viewing.”

The Parents TV Council is run by Mark Honig and Brent Bozell.
