Cisneros, Clarin pact

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Venezuelan-based Cisneros Group has inked a deal with Artear (owned by the Clarin Group) hoping to bring the Hughes-backed DTH TV service Galaxy LA to Argentina.

According to press reports, the new company hopes to offer DTH services by the end of the year. Clarin will have a 50% stake in the new venture, with Cisneros holding 20% and the remaining 30% divided between Hughes Communications, General Motors, Hughes Communications Group and a third partner, probably a programmer.

Federal law requires that DBS providers have an office in Argentina, at least 50% local programming, and a local sat uplink.
