CBS, Fox Sunday’s best

'Angel' season preem paces Eye's household win

CBS and Fox both debuted their Sunday night lineups, and CBS predictably took the night in households, while Fox won in the key adults 18-49 demo, according to preliminary national numbers.

CBS averaged a first-place 13.7 rating and 23 share in households and a third-place 5.1 in adults 18-49, falling behind NBC, which aired “Dateline,” a repeat of “3rd Rock From The Sun” and a movie. Fox averaged a third-place 8.3/14 in households and a first-place 6.7/10 in the 18-49 demo from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ABC was last in households and adults 18-49.

From 7-8 p.m., the Fox premiere of its “World’s Funniest” franchise rated a 4.4 in adults 18-49, up 132% from the 1.9/8 premiere of the game show “Big Deal” last year. The final national numbers may be lower because Fox had football overruns in 10 markets, which weren’t factored into the fast nationals.

‘Minutes’ debut a winner

The season premiere of “60 Minutes” on CBS rated a 4.8 in adults 18-49, down slightly from its year-ago results in that demo. It won the timeslot in households with a 13.6/25, on par with last year.

At 8 p.m., Fox’s season premiere of “The Simpsons” rated an 8.4/21 in adults 18-49, winning its timeslot in that demo, but remaining flat from its season debut last season. “The Simpsons” rated a 10.4/17 in households, placing second.

At 8:30 p.m., the season debut of “King of the Hill” fell two share points from its adults 18-49 lead-in, but still won its timeslot in that demo with an 8.2/19. That was 165% above the timeslot debut last season with the movie “Rudy,” 5% above the show’s average last season, but 17% below its midseason debut in January, when viewing levels are higher. “King of the Hill” rated a 10.4/16 in households.

The CBS season premiere of “Touched by An Angel” rated a second-place 7.0 in adults 18-49, which was a 21% increase versus its year-ago premiere. In households, “Touched” rated a first-place 15.4/24, up 10% from its debut last season. CBS beat Fox among adults 25-54.

From 9 to 11 p.m., the CBS movie “All the Winters That Have Been” averaged a first-place 12.9/21 in households and a 4.5 in adults 18-49.
