Bancroft books O’Reilly thriller

Bill O’Reilly, the former ABC News correspondent and “Inside Edition” anchor who anchors the interview program “The O’Reilly Report” for Fox News Channel, has sold his first novel, tentatively titled “Those Who Trespass,” to Bancroft Press for publishing in spring ’98.

Novel is a murder-mystery/thriller set in the TV news business that centers on the killings of several high-level network correspondents and executives, and the New York detective assigned to the case.

“Those Who Trespass” will have an initial 25,000-copy printing from Bancroft, which plans to send O’Reilly out on a national interview tour to promote it. Book marks Bancroft’s first foray into fiction.

Bancroft Press publisher Bruce Brotz said O’Reilly’s book “sheds unique light on what really goes on in the business of TV news.”

Todd Smith of CAA is repping the book on the film side in hopes of finding it a home on the big screen. Actor Ed Harris is reportedly interested in playing the lead.
