HONG KONG — Sony Pictures Entertainment’s AXN, the 24-hour action and adventure channel, has reached a distribution of 5 million households in the eight weeks since its launch, according to CEO James Buklarewicz.
“Despite a crowded market and limited capacity on most systems, AXN’s rapid distribution proves that the channel fills a void in the existing TV environment in Asia,” Buklarewicz told reporters at the Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Assn. of Asia conference, which runs through today.
AXN, which is based in Singapore, began transmitting Sept. 21 and is available in Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and Singapore, and in hotels in China. Buklarewicz said the channel soon will be available in Indonesia and the Philippines and is looking to move into Hong Kong and India.
