In preparation for the August election of officers, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ officer nominating committee has chosen Meryl C. Marshall for president, Nancy Bradley Wiard for VP, Vince Gutierrez for second VP, Sheila Manning for secretary and Patricia van Ryker for treasurer.
At present, Marshall and Wiard are ATAS treasurer and secretary, respectively, while Manning and Van Ryker serve as governors in the art decorators/set decorators branches, respectively. Gutierrez is a former governor in the sound branch.
Election will be held during the August meeting of ATAS’ board of governors, with new officers to be installed Oct. 8. Each position carries a two-year term.
At the same time, Socorro Serrano and Nelson Davis were chosen by a separate Los Angeles-area branch nominating committee as candidates for the officer post of L.A.-area VP.
Current ATAS prexy Richard Frank is completing his second consecutive two-year term — the maximum limit, according to Academy by-laws. He is ineligible to run again. Frank had an initial two-year term as ATAS prez from 1985-’87.
Up against the limit
ATAS bylaws allow for other qualified members of the Academy to run for any office of their choice by petition, validated with the signature of three current governors and filed by July 3. Each office is voted separately by secret ballot taken among the governors and executive committee members attending the August meeting of the board.
