Elijah Wood, the 16-year-old thesp who stars in Ang Lee’s upcoming “The Ice Storm,” has inked to topline opposite Tea Leoni in the thriller “Deep Impact” for Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks, sources said Wednesday.
Wood will play one of three characters who must deal with the news that a comet is on a deadly collision course with the Earth.
Michael Tolkin and Bruce Joel Rubin scripted the pic, which is likely to go before cameras in May. TV helmer Mimi Leder is directing.
Pic, a joint venture between Par and DreamWorks, is produced by Richard Zanuck, David Brown and Walter F. Parkes. Exec producers are Steven Spielberg and Joan Bradshaw.
Wood is currently in Dublin shooting “Oliver Twist,” a Disney-ABC TV movie with Richard Dreyfuss.
Wood’s other feature credits include “The War,” “North,” “Huck Finn,” “Avalon,” “The Good Son” and “Radio Flyer.”
Wood’s deal was brokered by Samantha Crisp of the William Morris Agency.
