Warner Bros. Home Video will release the eagerly awaited “Space Jam” on homevideo March 11. To herald the arrival of the title, the studio will implement a full-court marketing press.
The animated-live action pic starring Michael Jordan has grossed more than $102 million worldwide.
TV ads will focus on sports programming, while print ads will target Sports Illustrated, People and Time, among others.
“The marketing plan for ‘Space Jam’ is the biggest in WHV history,” said Brian Moreno, veep of Family Entertainment.
The studio has enlisted Rayovac Renewal Batteries to orchestrate a “Meet Mike” essay contest, where the grand prize winner will win a night on the town in Chicago and a meet-and-greet with Jordan.
Ballpark Products will offer a $5 mail-in rebate off the vid price, with a $1 million TV campaign and Sunday paper inserts due in April.
Dole will offer a special “Space Jam” street ball or pocket basketball game.
