Warner Bros. has optioned the upcoming Michael Connelly mystery “Blood Work,” about an ex-FBI agent who recently had a heart transplant and is on the trail of his donor’s killer.
The studio optioned the property in the six-figure range, with bonuses that could make the total package equal $1 million.
In the book, the ex-FBI agent, 42-year-old Terry McCaleb, is hired by the sister of the woman who was his heart donor to investigate her death. While it looked like the woman was killed in a random robbery, McCaleb connects the crime to others committed by a serial killer, one he had once trailed in his FBI days.
“Blood Work” will be published by Little, Brown early next year. Connelly’s “The Poet,” recently released in paperback, was sold to HBO.
Joel Gotler of Renaissance represents Connelly.
