As part of the ongoing celebrations of its milestone 30th anni, the American Film Institute hosted a cocktail reception Tuesday at Arnie Morton’s of Chicago for friends, supporters and members of the board.
The event was to highlight Variety’s special issue June 16-22 dedicated to the history of the AFI and its contributions to film art.
During the festivities, Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart presented AFI director and chief executive officer Jean Picker Firstenberg and AFI board chairman Tom Pollock with a check for $25,000.
Firstenberg said, “AFI is very proud of Variety’s special issue celebrating the institute’s first 30 years and appreciates their recognition of AFI’s contributions to this nation’s moving image arts.”
Among the guests enjoying the hors d’oeuvres were Oscar-winning director Robert Wise, associate dean of UCLA’s school of theater, film and television Vivian Sobchack, producers Irwin Winkler, Mark Canton Suzanne de Passe and Bud Yorkin, CAA’s Rick Nicita, C3 chairman-CEO Rich Frank, Fries Entertainment’s Chuck Fries, William Morris’ Leonard Hirshan, screenwriter Fay Kanin and Crown Intl. Pictures president Mark Tenser.
