Miramax’s “The English Patient” has won the USC Scripter Award, which honors the year’s best film adaptation of a book.

Michael Ondaatje’s novel was adapted for the screen by writer-director Anthony Minghella. The winners will be honored at a ceremony on Feb. 8 at USC’s Doheny Memorial Library. Hal Kanter will host.

Other finalists for the award were “Cold Comfort Farm,” “Dead Man Walking,” “Emma” and “The Portrait of a Lady.”
