Jon Gumpert, who has been in legal affairs at Universal Pictures since 1990, has been promoted to executive VP of the film label. He will continue to report to motion picture group chairman Casey Silver and will work closely with chief operating officer Chris McGurk.
“We are fortunate to have someone of his reputation and skill in this key position as we aggressively pursue growth opportunities in the global marketplace,” said Silver of the promotion. Business affairs now report to Gumpert.
He will be responsible for planning and coordinating the business operations of Universal Pictures and will work on strategic planning and finance with McGurk.
Gumpert joined U as senior VP, legal and business affairs, and was promoted in 1994 to executive VP. Before joining the studio, he served as executive VP of Odyssey Entertainment. From 1983-85, he was president of World Film Services, an independent company that produced and financed motion pictures. He was involved in the production of such films as “A Passage to India,” “The Dresser” and “D.A.R.Y.L.”
