LONDON — United Cinemas Intl. is planning a partnership to build multiplexes in the Czech Republic and Hungary, according to the company’s new senior VP of business development Howard France.
France said United Cinemas, which is a joint venture between Paramount and Universal, will create a ”regional alliance” with a ”well-known company that’s familiar with doing business in that region.” This will be negotiated in the next few weeks.
UCI has a strong presence in the U.K., Germany and Spain, and last year formed a joint venture to develop multi-plexes in Poland with local company ITI.
Several other international companies, including Village Roadshow, Ster Kinekor, Time Warner and Flebbe, are currently eying opportunities to enter the exhibition business in the Czech Republic or Hungary.
