United Artists unwrapped an early Christmas present for a low six-figure fee with “Son of Santa,” Malcolm Clarke’s spec script about the offspring of the gift-giver, sources said Monday.
Spec follows the exploits of the son who is drafted from the real world to take over for his retiring papa. Insiders said it was in the vein of “Santa Clause” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
No producer or talent is attached. Neil Tardio will get story credit.
UA exec VP Rebecca Pollack-Parker brought the project into the studio.
Clarke, best known for his two Oscar-winning docs “Soldiers in Hiding” and “You Don’t Have to Die,” is making a switch to feature scripting and directing.
In the last six months, he has sold two pitches to Kevin Costner and Spelling Films. He also has a spec on the market called “Cowgirl Kate and Other Stories.”
Clarke’s deal was brokered by Nick Reed of ICM. Tardio was repped by William Morris agent Alan Gasmer.
