With the ethics of cloning being hotly debated, Turner Original Prods. is prepping an hour documentary entitled “The Mystery of Twins” that explores the identical twins phenomenon. It’s slated for a late-1997 premiere on TBS.
Produced by Turner Originals VP Tom McMahon and independent producer Fred Golding, who previously teamed for Turner on the Oscar-nominated 1995 docu “Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream,” “Mystery of Twins” considers the question of nature vs. nurture in determining what shapes who we are.
Among those profiled are Jim Lewis and Jim Springer, identicals separated at birth and raised by different families in different cities.
Reunited by chance 39 years later, the two Jims discovered some startling similarities, besides their common first name. As young boys they both had a dog named Toy. They both married women named Linda, divorced and then married women named Betty. They both named their first sons James Allen. Both smoked Salem cigarettes and drank Miller Lite beer. Carpentry was their favorite hobby, and each took his family on vacation to the same remote Florida beach resort.
Turner Original Prods. prexy Pat Mitchell serves as the hour’s executive producer. Vivian Schiller is senior producer.
