LONDON — Trans World Intl., the worldwide sports producer and distributor, is moving into documentary production following a deal with British Pathe for a 13-part docu series, “Century,” that looks back at the past 100 years.
International group VP Eric Drossart said, “Starting with this series, we intend to make broadcasters around the world aware of the seriousness of our plans to widen our production base.
“With only one program in this series featuring sport, ‘Century’ is an important step in our diversification plans, as it allows us to focus on other areas and develop and expand the skills and experience we already have.”
Stewart Binns, TWI’s director of special projects, said, ” ‘Century’ is pure tabloid television, strong on nostalgia, entertaining and informative. It’s unashamedly aimed at the mid-market primetime TV.
“While it’s international in outlook, each program is enlivened by stories and themes that touch hearts and minds around the world, irrespective of race or culture.”
Chris Davies, British Pathe’s joint managing director, said, “As we approach the end of the century, television and video acquisition executives worldwide will be looking for a high-quality, fast-moving, primetime family documentary that celebrates that time. ‘Century’ is the series to meet that demand.”
