Stone, Bahnemann feted with Acad’s Bonner Medal

Burton (Bud) Stone and Volker Bahnemann will receive the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ John A. Bonner Medal of Commendation at the Scientific and Technical Awards presentation dinner on March 1 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

The Bonner Medals, named in honor of the late director of special projects at Warner Hollywood Studios, are awarded in appreciation for “outstanding service and dedication in upholding the high standards of the Academy.”

Stone, the retired president of Deluxe Laboratories, began his film career as a film editor in 1951 before joining Deluxe in 1976. As a member of numerous charitable and film-related organizations, “Stone has given freely of his time and energy, helping to improve both his industry and his community,” according an Academy statement.

Bahnemann, now president of Arriflex Corp., joined Arriflex America in 1963 as a camera technician. He was named to his current post in 1977.

Both Stone and Bahnemann have been active over the years in the Academy’s scientific and technical committee.
