MADRID — One of Spain’s biggest indie production houses, animation outfit BRB Internacional, is diversi-fying into the production of live-action series.
The move, described by vet BRB prexy Claudio Biern Boyd as “our biggest challenge yet,” continues the close relationship between BRB Internacional, one of the largest animation houses in Europe, and Antena 3 TV, Spain’s top-rated commercial broadcaster. BRB’s biggest live-action project is a 26-episode, one-hour series based on tales by Spain’s bestselling scribe Corin Tellado.
A one-hour pilot was broadcast this December on Antena 3 TV. BRB and the web are now in negotiations to co-produce the series.
In animation, BRB is currently co-producing “Yolanda, Daughter of the Black Privateer” with Antena 3 TV and Italy’s RAI. And it has in production, teaming again with Antena 3 TV and also Luxembourg’s TV giant CLT, “The Untouchables of Elliot Mouse.”
BRB Internacional unveiled its flagship project, the 26-episode, $8 million “The New World of the Gnomes” at Mipcom last October. Produced with CLT, Antena 3 TV and Italian badge manufacturers Panini, in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), “The New World” will be released late.
