Robinson tops silent pix fest

ROME – British film critic and historian David Robinson has been appointed director of the Pordenone Silent Film Days, replacing Davide Turconi in the position. One of the world’s most respected annual forums for silent films, the fest takes place in northern Italy each October.

Robinson has written for numerous publications including the Times, the Financial Times and Sight and Sound. Among his many books is the critical biography “Chaplin: His Life and Art” that was the basis for Richard Attenborough’s 1992 biopic of the actor-director. He was director in 1959 of the third London Film Festival and from 1989-91 of the Edinburgh Film Fest.
