BARCELONA — In Europe’s digital dawn a timely reminder of the importance of advertising to European broadcasting was served this week in Barcelona at the first Promax Europe confab, sponsored by the international association of promotion and marketing execs in the electronic media.
The organizers had expected some 300 participants in the meet, but nearly 500 registered from 30 countries, exceeding expectations, said Promax international prexy and CEO Jim Chabin.
There was a large turnout from Germany, and a significant presence from Eastern Europe, where startup commercial nets are quickly learning Western European promo techniques and payment systems, participants said.
Helmut Thoma, president of RTL Television in Germany, Europe’s largest TV ad market, gave the keynote speech. MTV Europe’s MTV Europe Music Awards Campaign won the prize for best on-air promo/marketing campaign at the Promax Europe Awards, sponsored by All American Fremantle Intl.
