Portrait of an intergalactic salesman

Cartoonist Steve Appleby’s intergalactic salesman hero “Captain Star” will be zooming to Nickelodeon/U.K. in 1988.

Brit thesps Richard E. Grant (“Withnail and I”) and Adrian Edmondson (“The Young Ones”) will provide the voices of Captain Star and Atomic Engine Stoker “Limb” Jones. The tongue-in-cheek series is prepared by Filmworks, HTV and Alliance Communications. “Captain Star” is Alliance’s first 2-D venture.

Co-producer Beth Stevenson and Alliance Equicap prexy Jeff Royman, “the series’ animation style follows in the footsteps of Dr. Seuss, and the humor will have a ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ flavor, without the dark sarcasm.”

Alliance Entertainment’s said although many different U.S. outfits expressed interest in the toon at NATPE, no U.S. TV premiere date has yet been set.
