Philips bows its DVD player Stateside

Philips Electronics on Thursday unveiled its digital videodisc players in the U.S. The company also announced a DVD rental program with Polygram video. Philips owns 75% of Polygram.

Philips’ DVD player, marketed under the Magnavox banner, will carry a suggested retail price of $549.

Polygram already has announced its slate of DVD movie titles. Details about its rental program with Philips weren’t disclosed Thursday.
