Up-and-coming screenwriter Michael Petroni has sold the pitch for “Beneath the Surface,” a thriller about the repercussions from a murder in a small Midwestern town, to Caravan Pictures for a mid-six-figure sum.
The pitch comes hot on the heels of Petroni delivering the first draft of another pitch he recently sold to Caravan, concerning a Jesuit priest’s struggle with his faith. The scribe, who hails from Australia, is a 1996 graduate of the AFI Graduate Screenwriters Program.
Stu Birnbaum is producing with Roger Birnbaum on both projects. Neal Israel and Andrew Deane of Like Brothers Films will handle executive producing chores on the two pics. And United Talent Agency’s Martin Bowen repped Petroni on the deals.
