Fox has given its midseason comedy “Pauly” a quick hook, pulling the low-rated sitcom a few episodes short of its initial order.

“Pauly,” which is from Fox’s sister production company 20th Century Fox Television, averaged a 5.3 rating and 8 share in the Monday 9:30-10 p.m. slot, according to Nielsen. This past Monday, the sitcom hit a season low with a 4.0/6.

Fox aired five of the seven episodes of the Pauly Shore sitcom the web ordered. A final decision on the show’s fate will come next month.

Next week, Fox will rebroadcast the premiere of its new drama “Pacific Palisades” in the Monday 9-10 p.m. slot, preempting “Married … With Children.” On April 21, Fox will again preempt “Married … With Children,” and one of its hourlong “Close Call, Cheating Death” episodes will air in the 9-10 p.m. slot.

The first week of May sweeps will feature back-to-back “Married” episodes followed by the season finale of “Married” in the second week. Fox has yet to determine how it will program the 9-10 p.m. hour for Monday, May 12. A two-hour season closer of “Melrose Place” will air on May 19.
