BUENOS AIRES U.S. exhib National Amusements has announced an agreement with local developer Maccarone to construct at least five multiplexes in Argentina, including an 18-screener.
Initial plans call for 40 screens in greater Buenos Aires and 20 divided between the provinces of Mendoza and Cordoba.
The plexes will anchor entertainment “Showcenters,” with space allotted for live music venues, bowling alleys, restaurants and virtual reality arcades.
Buenos Aires’ first Showcenter, a 14-plex, is slated to open in May.
The 18-plex will form part of a center expected to cost $ 100 million, of which $ 25 million will be spent on the hardtop.
National Amusements’ Argentine entry follows its Latino bow in Chile, where the exhib has so far opened one of 10 planned venues. In Argentina, the exhib will face foreign competition from Cinemark and United Artists Theater Circuit.
