NEW YORK — The first New York Women Film Festival will run from May 29 to June 1 in Gotham.
Founded in the spring of 1996 by filmmaker Suzanne Myers and executive committee members Sarah Eaton, Sarah Vogel and Jane Williams, the fest is designed to encourage and celebrate the growing presence of femme filmmakers.
The NYWFF will showcase narrative, documentary, experimental, feature and short films and video and will include two screenplay readings as well as evening events.
The festival has drawn the support of corporate sponsors Allure magazine, Max Factor cosmetics, New Line Cin-ema, MovieFone, the Independent Film Channel and the Sundance Film Channel.
“We’re excited by the interest and enthusiasm the festival is already generating,” Myers said.
Sara Goodman is executive director of the NYWFF. Material will be selected by a committee that includes Laurie Anderson, Kim Gordon and Lisa Krueger. Films will be accepted for consideration through April 1.
