Murch nabs film Eddie

“The English Patient” and its editor, Walter Murch, won the top feature film honor from the American Cinema Editors Saturday at the group’s annual Eddie Awards.

In TV awards, the group honored Randy Morgan for editing NBC’s “ER” episode “The Healers” and Skip Collector for editing the “Seinfeld” episode “The Abstinence.”

The award for “Patient” adds to a list of accolades that includes the Golden Globe for best picture, drama, as well as honors from the Directors Guild, Producers Guild and the American Society of Cinematographers.

Murch and recording mixers Mark Berger and David Parker and production mixer Chris Newman won a Cinema Audio Society Award on March 8.

The other feature honor went to Pasquale Buba, William A. Anderson and Ned Bastille in the documentary category for Fox Searchlight’s “Looking for Richard.” The film’s director, Al Pacino, won a DGA Award for the pic on March 8.

The editors group also gave a special kudo to Roger Corman, who received the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award.

One curiosity among the nominees for feature films was Roderick Jaynes, nominated for “Fargo.” That name is a pseudonym for Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The event was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
