Loeks-Star Theatres’ 20-screen complex in Southfield , Mich., will be Michigan’s largest theater complex. David Rockwell, designer of the Planet Hollywood restaurants, plans a 20-foot popcorn bucket concession stand as well as re-creations of Detroit landmarks and movie sets. Auditoriums will feature stadium-style rocking chair seating, and the two largest theaters will boast 65-foot screens. Touch screen monitors will play film previews and accommodate ticket sales.
The complex is a joint venture between Star Theatres, headed by Jim Loeks and Barrie Lawson Loeks, and Millennium Partners, who developed New York’s Lincoln Square complex. The 6,000 seat complex also includes themed restaurants and retail outlets. Opening is set for summer 1997.
