Sue Kroll, who had been working as senior VP of Warner Bros. Intl. Channels, has been named to the new post of senior VP of marketing for Warner Bros. Intl. Theatrical Distribution.
Kroll will oversee the development of marketing strategy and media campaigns for Warners’ overseas releases. She will be based in Burbank and report to Edward Frumkes, president of Intl. Theatrical Distribution for Warner Bros. Chris Pula, who came to the studio in January, oversees domestic marketing as president of theatrical marketing.
Studio officials say the move underscores the increasing need to tailor marketing campaigns to specific territories. About 60% of Warner Bros. box office is generated in international markets.
Kroll, who is much respected in the international community, also will be working in conjunction with the studio’s international distribution offices.
Kroll spent the past two years launching Warner Bros.’ branded cable channels in Europe, Australia and Latin America. After the Time Warner/TBS merger, international channel development was shifted under the Turner umbrella. Followin that move, the company wanted to retain Kroll and found a new position for her elsewhere at the company.
“Sue has had hands-on experience with both marketing and program content, which has developed her sensitivity to the tastes and preferences of a broad spectrum of cultures and audiences,” Frumkes said in making the announcement. “I’m sure that she will bring excellent insight, direction and skill to her new position and we welcome her warmly.”
Before Warner Bros., Kroll served as senior VP and general manager of the Cartoon Network and TNT in Europe, where she supervised all operations and development activities for the networks. Kroll was responsible for the pan-European, multilanguage launch of two channels in September 1993, which marked Turner’s first entertainment venture outside the U.S. She also served as senior VP of marketing for TNT, and before that, Showtime Networks.
