LONDON — Eighties hotshot Marek Kanievska is returning to feature films after a decade’s absence to direct “Where the Money Is” for Scott Free.
The pic is based on a spec script by E. Max Frye (“Something Wild”) about a small-town nurse who goes on the run with a convicted bank robber who was transferred to her hospital after suffering a massive stroke.
Both Tony Scott and Danny Cannon were previously reported to be attached to the project, but Kanievska is now firmly in place and casting is under way.
Kanievska shot to prominence in 1984 with his British pic “Another Country,” followed less successfully with his American debut “Less Than Zero” in 1987. After that, he withdrew to the lucrative business of directing commercials.
But his relationship with Ridley Scott’s London-based commercials company RSA has now led him back to the bigscreen.
“Where the Money Is” is being financed by Guy East’s Intermedia under its deal to handle Scott Free projects budgeted below $15 million.
