DirecTV Japan and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said Wednesday they will offer interactive information services over DirecTV satellite broadcasting connection in mid-1998.The service, which can be integrated into the box to receive DirecTV’s direct digital satellite broadcasting, will allow users to do online shopping and receive items such as traffic and weather information. The companies said the receiver should have a retail price of 45,000 yen ($398) or less. Last month, Matsushita reached an agreement with Rupert Murdoch’s British Sky Broadcasting Group and two other British firms to deliver digital interactive services in the U.K.
