Interpublic has $15 mil ‘Great Day!’

NEW ORLEANS — Advertising conglomerate Interpublic Group celebrated its first appearance at NATPE with a $15 million investment in “Great Day!,” a daytime hour co-produced by IPG’s subsidiary Western Intl. Syndication and Alton Entertainment.

IPG’s financial commitment ensures the show will go into production, even if it fails to secure significant clear-ances, said Chris Lancey, president of Western Intl. Syndication. “If we have to slow-roll this show, we will slow-roll,” Lancey said.

“Great Day!” will feature three hosts and will include both news and entertainment features, similar to the second hour of the “Today” show, Lancey said. Western Intl. has not announced any clearances for the show, but is close on several deals, according to Lancey. The show is being offered on a cash-plus-barter basis.

The show is being marketed as a feel-good alternative to the daytime talkers. Western Intl. Media’s Daniel Roth, exec VP and chief strategic officer, said IPG is taking the unusual step of putting money on the table for the show because the ad firm is desperate for wholesome alternatives to daytime talk fare.
