Connery eyes 'Avengers' revenger
Sean Connery, who last starred in the actioner “The Rock,” is in talks to star in Warner Bros.’ “The Avengers” as the archnemesis of Emma Peel (Uma Thurman) and Jonathan Steed (Ralph Fiennes). The role would be a decided turn for Connery, who hasn’t played a heavy in a film since “Action of the Tiger” in 1957. In 1973, however, Connery did play a cop who beat a suspect to death in Sidney Lumet’s “The Offence.” The actor also played “Macbeth” in 1961 for the Canadian Broadcasting Co. “The Avengers” is based on the 1960s British TV show that was originally designed as a James Bond story for the small screen. The project is expected to go before the cameras June 2, with Jeremiah Chechik at the helm for producer Jerry Weintraub.
